This is to address a certain blog entry someone posted on Multiply. We will not link to the thread because the madness has to stop, and it won't if people keep on going there to post replies. Curses and insults have been traded and it's not pretty.

But as a backgrounder, someone posted a list of the Best and Worst Conventions in the Philippines, with the New Worlds conventions landing on the #1 spot of the Worst list. The person who posted had a specific complaint against an alleged Jedi costumer who was rude to her cousin who wanted a picture taken.

One of the questions we are asked most often is, ‘How much does your costume cost?’ It’s not cheap, for starters. And it’s no picnic putting it together either. Read on to see just how much the 501st is devoted to Star Wars.

How do I begin to tell the story of a girl in the Philippines flying many miles to march in a parade few in this country have heard of? How do I tell the story of two Filipinos marching 5.5 miles among 200 rabid Star Wars fans in armor? How do I tell of the out-of-this-galaxy Star Wars week I just spent in Los Angeles?

MANILA, Philippines—You’ve probably seen pictures of the stormtroopers and Darth Vader, or even seen them for yourself at malls, on TV, at big events. You’ve seen them in their armor, posing and marching with their blasters and their helmets. You probably even have pictures with them.

But have you ever thought of what it’s like to wear all that armor? I’ll tell you what it’s like, because I wore clone trooper armor three days in a row at “Star Wars” Celebration Japan.
